CARMELINA

 Pop Singer / Songwriter 

Carmelina Vargas  was born in Barahona, Dominican Republic and raised in Harlem, New York.  Carmelina is a college graduate from SUNY Purchase  and  first appeared on the national music scene in the summer of 2008 with the release of her first Dance single “Mueve Las Caderas”  (Move your hips) (Morena Records).   ASCAP  Latino highlighted Carmelina’s debut album titled “Morena” (Morena Records, 2009) as one of the most anticipated albums of the year.  

Carmelina appeared  at the Latin Trendsetter Awards presented by LatinTrends Magazine joined by then Mayor Michael Bloomberg, La Mega's DJ Alex Sensation, and Pulitzer Prize winner Junot Diaz was featured as "woman of the month" byShesomajor.com.  Her endeavors received national recognition from Congressman Charles B. Rangel of Harlem, New York’s 15th District  for her live performances.  
  
Carmelina released “Alegria" (Joy) (Morena Records), the hip-shaking, Dance/Pop single which hit the airwaves on B95 KBOS in Fresno, CA, 98.7 AMP Radio WDZH in Detroit, MI, 95.7 The Beat, KPAT in Santa Maria, CA, 106.9 K-HITS KHTT FM in Tulsa, OK, WHYI Y100 in Miami and on Promo Only.  
  
Carmelina was honored by El Diario Newspaper for the 100th anniversary  “Latinas Destacadas” (Outstanding women) award ceremony of 2013. El Diario is the largest Spanish language newspaper in the country and the luncheon celebrated 40 Oustanding women  at the Mandarin Oriental in New York City.  
  
Carmelina's musical effort includes a collaboration with DJ Creativity on "Looking For Love [charted #205 on indiependent Top 40 Radio], and the Spanish Remix "Buscando Amor" (32 Track Productions), both EDM/House tracks with a Big Room feel.  

Carmelina collaborated with multi-platinum rapper, Sacario for "Alegria Remix" (Morena Records, 2013). 

Carmelina has also collaborated with legendary rapper, AZ for “Born To Win Remix" (Morena Records, 2015).   

Carmelina's brand new hot, Pop Reggae dance track “Selecta” (Morena Records) features Billboard charting and Grammy nominee Reggae artist, Mighty Mystic.  

"Selecta"  received substantial radio airplay on College rafio and on Top 40 Radio and the like.

Carmelina is writing new songs and also enjoys  translating  and recording songs in Spanish under her own independent imprint, Morena Records.
